The Dinosaur Festival.

I'm told here will be real live Dinosaurs there so I wouldn't miss it for quids. Yes, I thought they were extinct too but where did they get all those beasts to appear in those Jurrassic World movies? They weren't actors were they?. There wouldn't be a point to having a festival of Dinosaurs without the real thing and besides, publicists and PR people don't tell fibs. Somewhere there is an island where all the Dinosaurs hang out so maybe a few will be attending this wondrous festival (take no notice of the pic- I don't think that's a real Dinosaur). If only one makes an appearance it will make my day.

Aussie Publishing Wars

High drama as an ex-pat Aussie media man takes legal action against high profile journalist Ronan Farrow (pictured right) who wrote the 2017 New Yorker "expose" on Harvey Weinstein that kicked of the so-called @MeToo movement. He won a 2018 Pullizer Prize for that reporting.
Farrow is the son of actress Mia Farrow and director Woody Allen and the grandson of legendary Australian film writer and director John Farrow who found fame in Hollywood in the 1940s.

Enter from stage right heavyweight publisher Dylan Howard who was brought up in Geelong outside Melbourne and who studied journalism at Deakin University. After working on the daily Geelong Advertiser in 2009 Howard decamped to the US to work as a TV reporter for Kerry Stokes' Seven Network.

Howard left, has become a pretty high powered media personality over the years managing publications like Us Weekly and OK! as well as editing the hugely popular celebrity gossip tabloid the National Enquirer which no US supermarket worth it's salt would dare not feature at the check-out counters.
Recently, with a weekly circulation of over 270,000 the Enquirer was sold for $US100M.

Back to Ronan Farrow who is this month releasing an anticipated tome called Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators which rumours say will document claims Howard attempted to dig up information on Weinstein accuser Rose McGowan ( well he is a journalist- sort of his job really..a bit like Farrow's) along with other tales about US president Donald Trump.
Apparently M'Learned Friend has been contacted by Howard with high powered US, UK and Australasian law firms telling all and sundry in the book business..publisher, retailers etc they could be in line for a legal rumbling should anything untoward appear about their client.

Ronan is the image of his grandfather John Farrow. His book is due to be published on October 15th.

Popbitch bloopers

We can't be too hard on the internet gossipy website Popbitch which can be a lot of fun at times although we get slightly irritated with what seems an obsession with bodily functions and the size or otherwise of "celebrity" private parts. After all Whispers has supplied them with the odd snippet over the years but how did they make mistakes like these two when the facts are so easily verified?
Such as this:

Max (right) is a Sydney based publicist whose office is a 5 minute walk from Whispers. Having been there numerous times we should know.  Perhaps a clue is in the billing Max gives himself as: Australia's Premier Publicist !

Alec Baldwin (above left) is a confirmed Democrat who supported Barack Obama's presidential campaign and is supporting Hilary Clinton. His brother actor Stephen Baldwin is a Republican who has expressed beliefs in many right-wing conspiracy theories including a claim Osama Bin Laden is still alive.

Everything Old is New Again :The Daily Mail

The Daily Mail : It's been described as the very worst and the very best of tabloids. Certainly their online version MailOnline is the most read newspaper website on the planet. The printed version has for decades had the most pleasing layout and graphics of any of the British tabloids and an excellent mixture of news, newsy tales and celebrity, society and show biz gossip.
So it's always a great compliment when the Mail takes a cue from Whispers at thesocialshuttle (as is their wont) to bring the public a tale as they did with this piece on 2nd June 2015  : about former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard with a fab pic of Julia jiving on stage to accompany the late Victorian premier Joan Kirner at the microphone.
The fact our tale with a similar headline appeared on June 29th 2013 is neither here nor there

Kings Cross Gossip

To the oddly named Akward bar at the top of William Street, Kings Cross for a Sony Music reception for The Gossip.
Gossip are a 3 piece American rock band relatively unknown in these parts and Sony hope to change that with their new album A Joyful Noise. On the plus side, a small party of about 30 guests with a chance to chat to the band- on the minus side, Gossip didn't perform. Nathan "Brace Paine" Howdeshell & Kathy Mendonca are the two musicians and vocalist Beth Ditto has a sensational voice. We're sure you'll agree : here is Beth and the band with 2006 song Standing In The Way Of Control.
