New York, New York-If I can can make it there...

Daniel Garofali, Matty Bee, Joan Rivers, Rupert Noffs
Twitter & Face book-it's like having a neighbour permanently gossiping over the back fence. No-one escapes your gaze.
The Shuttle has been keeping up with former Sydneysider Rupert Noffs who it appears, has settled nicely into an apartment in Manhattan to the extent of mastering  that all important staple-chicken soup!. Helping out is ace New York publicist Kelly Cutrone whose contacts are next to none in the USA.
Glee star Kevin McHale in his Gideon Shoes NYTimes

According to our new York spy Rupert's also been doing the rounds: fashion week, top night spots, Halloween parties, meeting Beyonce and Joan Rivers, fighting with Lindsay Lohan over a taxi -as one does- but more importantly, promoting Gideon Shoes, the business set up by he and his brother Matt Noffs.

For those not yet in the know, Rupert and Matt are the grandsons of Sydney saint the late Rev Ted Noffs who started the Wayside Chapel in Kings Cross in 1964.

Matt and Rupert have parlayed that charity spirit into Gideon Shoes, the fantastic and stylish shoes that are made ethically in Australia. That means no slave labour in the Third World (or here!).

Respected US writer Naomi Klein tried to tell the world decades ago that ethical manufacturing was the way to go. Local shareholder activist and journalist Stephen Mayne has been saying likewise.

Rupert and Matt started Gideon Shoes in order to fund The Street University, the kid's retreat in Western Sydney set up by Matt and wife Naomi. 11.000 kids a year are benefiting from the Street University and in 2009 they were given the seal of approval with a visit from then PM Kevin Rudd and HRH Prince William.

Now they are tackling the USA and it really is just a matter of time before the penny drops with US fashion editors-their shoes are there to stay. Already the New York Times has featured them with Glee star Kevin McHale wearing a pair. It's surely just a matter of time before Anna Wintour is spotted striding up Fifth Avenue in her Gideons.

## If top New York publicist Kelly Cutrone is on your case, it's pretty well taken for granted that success is imminent. Here is a clip from Dr Phil shown last month on Australian TV where Kelly reads the riot act to a couple of guests.

Warne's Juggernaut Rolls On

And so to the glitzy Crown Casino in Melbourne and the launch of the private gambling den, Club 23 with a breathless Seven news correspondent saying "she has never seen anything like it" (memo to Kerry Stokes-send your staff out more)
Splash News (c)

Shane Warne appeared briefly with La Hurley in tow before depositing her in a hallway, only for calls from the media to re-appear for that all important 'photo-call' with Tiger Woods who is on a whirlwind tour of Oz which will see him going forwards and backwards between Melbourne and Sydney for golfing tournaments.

Expect another gala evening at the re-vamped Star Casino in Sydney tonight.

Warne is an 'ambassador' for Club 23 (as the Shuttle reported many months ago) which presumably means he gets an open bar tab for lending his name to the joint.
Others who attended the launch included Anthony Callea, Harry Kewell and Brian McFadden.
Soon the master plan of this brilliant business love match will be revealed. We've already had Warnie announce his return to cricket today. What's in it for Liz?. A new movie with Jack Thompson directed by Baz Luhrmann ?

Viral Video of The Day

The Shuttle's favourite comedian Julia Morris is proving a bIg hit on the weird show Celebrity Apprentice and viewers have noted her tearful pleas to support Breast Cancer research when she was able to give tens of thousands of dollars to the cause via the show. Here's the latest TV advert and app to download on your mobile to remind women to check (no doubt Julia would approve):

It's Delicious!

Matt Moran & Valli Little
Matt Preston & Bill Granger
Delicious Magazine has been a great Australian publishing success for ten years now and that's a good enough reason to throw a party.

Which is what they did last week at Carriageworks in the Inner West with a host of top foodies and chefs turning up to celebrate with editor Trudi Jenkins, including Masterchef's Matt Preston (who also writes for delicious) Matt Moran, Christine Mansfield and Bill Granger whose new London restaurant will open next month in Westbourne Grove near Notting Hill.

Held at the new pop-up cafe John and Peter Canteen in Carriageworks, one would expect the food to be spot on and so it was with an amazing variety of delicious eats washed down with French champagne. John and Peter are the guys to watch. They're building an excellent reputation and their staff is professional and friendly.

More Honours for Nobel Winner Patrick White

Patrick White
Charlotte Rampling
The Australian film, The Eye of the Storm directed by Fred Schepisi has won the special jury prize at the Rome International Film Festival, alongside the French film See How They Dance by Claude Miller, the first time 2 movies have been awarded a joint prize.

The Eye Of The Storm stars Geoffrey Rush, Charlotte Rampling and Judy Davis ( who according to Woody Allen is "the best actress in the world") and is based on the book by Australian writer Patrick White, the first time any of his 12 novels has made it to screen and the one which so impressed a Swedish judging panel they awarded him the Nobel Prize for Literature

I'm Tiffany-Come Fly With Me

One always groans as the Christmas season approaches. It's the silly season in Sydney which means everything basically shuts up shop until February next year and one goes into a sort of social de-tox mode. We suffer for our art.
Tiffany Farrington

Alan Joyce ?
Ace PR Tiffany Farrington gets first prize for the first party signalling that Christmas has arrived.

Tiffany also runs the very successful Social Diary and her yearly party, this one her fourth, has become one of the zappiest and best attended. This year is was at Bungalow 8 at the Jones Street Wharf.

There isn't much to say about this shindig-you just sort of go with the flow. Great food, great music, great champagne. We drank, listened and ate and eventually made it home in one piece.

Plenty of inventive costumes including an Alan Joyce look-a-like (Qantas CEO). Tiffany must have been thanking her lucky stars she had Virgin Airlines as a sponsor instead of the Flying Kangaroo.

Newspaper of The Year Photo Drama

The Sunday Telegraph, recipient of the Newspaper of The Award in the annual News Awards has been involved in a drama about a photograph they have published to day of nightclub tsar John Ibrahim- the man whose enemies keep (literally) taking pot shots at with very dangerous guns.

Ibrahim lunched at Otto's last Tuesday for the Melbourne Cup celebrations and later attended Famous Magazine's Flapper & Dapper Melbourne Cup party held at one of his Kings Cross nightclubs, The Piano Bar.

The Shuttle was at another table at Otto's with friends and asked the maître de to ask Mr Ibrahim if he would mind posing for a photo (we are ever so polite).
Word came back that he declined as he said he wished to stay out of the media at present (for good reason).
Just to show there were no hard feelings we took one anyway.

Read the story here at the Sunday Telegraph (Newspaper Of The Year!)

Spotted ! : sitting quietly at a table at the Cosmopolitan Cafe in Double Bay, accompanied by a very large gentleman, ex-crime boss Bill Bayeh (John Ibrahim once worked for his brother Louis Bayeh when the pair 'ran' the Cross).
Bayeh was released from Silverwater Jail in July after serving 15 years for drug charges .It was from the Cosmopolitan Coffee Lounge on Darlinghurst Road in Kings Cross (not related to the Double Bay cafe) that Bayeh ran his lucrative drug empire between December 1995 and July 1996, raking in a reported $2.5 million in six months.
As part of his parole he is forbidden from entering the Kings Cross nightclub area.

Murdoch awards himself first prize

It almost brings a tear to your eye. I'm sure they deserved it. The Sunday Telegraph has won the Newspaper Of The Year Award.

The award was presented to Sunday Tele editor Neil Breen by Rupert Murdoch in the annual News Ltd Awards.

The great media baron is reported as saying "he had enormous pride in the great examples of the quality journalism rewarded by the judges."

Irrelevant / Irreverent Facts : News Ltd & The Daily Telegraph are both owned by..err..Rupert Murdoch. It's the thought that counts.
Sadly, no posthumous award for the News of The World.

Baz Sets Us Right

First pic of Joel in 'Gatsby'
A missive arrives from Baz Luhrmann's production office for The Great Gatsby being filmed at Sydney's Fox Studios starring Leo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Joel Edgerton.

It says that yes indeed, many of the cars used in the film are right hand drive-as the Shuttle reported last week- as they were sourced locally although 2 magnificent Dussenbergs were imported from the USA for the film. However when the movie is released, all the vehicles in the film will, by the magic of modern film techniques, appear to be driven on the correct side IE: left hand drive. Thank God. After all, it will be screened  in glorious 3D.

# A local paparazzi tells us a tale of encountering Leo Di Caprio at Bondi Beach a week ago taking a walk along the promenade with an entourage in tow. DiCaprio had lunched with co-star Tobey McGuire at Icebergs.

As the  snapper snapped away at Leo, causally dressed in shorts, sandals and baseball cap, a female minder hissed at him :"why don't you get a real job?"
The photographer retorted "why don't you?". Apparently Leo found it most amusing !

Get A Glimpse Of Joan Here

Joan at Flemington
Do not fret-the Chloe & Kim Kardashian charabanc may have fled town after turning down the $150,000  fee for an appearance at the Melbourne's Spring Carnival for Swisse , but Joan Collins now has a Sydney show as part of her one woman bandwagon. The Shuttle's Kardashian spy disguised as an over-priced handbag says their agent ordered Kim to return asap to LA to cash-in field offers from major US networks to discuss her collapsed publicity stunt marriage.

Warnie & Hurley at Ladies Day
Joan was at the Ladies Day at Flemington yesterday looking as glamorous as she ever did in Dynasty, hard as that may be, and her outfit could definitely have come straight from the 80's series.

There are still tickets available for
A Night With Joan at the State Theatre on Monday evening, 7th November but be quick. They are going fast. Book at Ticketmaster.

below is a promo clip from A Night With Joan with such memorable lines as
"a woman who would reveal her age would reveal anything"!

No Longer Keeping Up With The Kardashians

As Kim Kardahsian and sister Chloe Hardashian do their round of media appointments today, requesting that their...errr.. 'privacy'..be respected over Kim's marriage split up (Mum Kris Jenner is doing likewise in the USA and scoffing at rumours Kim's ring is worth $2M.."only half that") one must wonder who has organised this PR tour as the calamities keep piling up.

It's either a total stuff-up or Hollywood PR at it's best. As you can see by viewing footage here.

Last night the sisters went to the Icebergs restaurant at Bondi Beach, again a wonderful spot but not the best place to avoid the media as their minder's infer as they keep angrily hissing at the assembled paparazzi : one who actually said, clipboard in hand,"how did you find us here..leave us alone?"

Icebergs
This was the spot brilliant advertising guru John Singleton chose to launch his Bondi Blonde Beer in 2006 (like Australia really needs another beer!) with then 'it' girl Paris Hilton in tow. He later sold the beer brand for a huge profit 4 years later.

The Shuttle went to the party and made it through the mayhem on a Saturday afternoon. Unwisely we chose to leave just as Paris Hilton left and got caught up in complete chaos, being shoved against Hilton's waiting limousine that had all doors open waiting for Singleton and Paris to make a quick exit..

Hundreds of tourists had blocked the roadway and restaurant entrance and as 2 heavy minders gradually made their way to the limo with Hilton, they first had to remove an almost stereotype Japanese tourist, cameras strung around his neck who was now sitting in the back of the limousine, casually inspecting shopping bags from Paris's Paddington shopping spree that morning !

                                                  ***********************

Meanwhile John Singleton, whose exploits have built him a $100M fortune by correctly gauging the Australian psyche-if we didn't know Paul Hogan's larrikan personality was the real deal you could be forgiven for thinking he was a Singleton invention-has escaped censure by the local Woollahra council having re-painted his newly purchased Bellevue Hotel in Paddington without council permission.

Bellevue Hotel
Facing a $3000 fine the council have agreed to waive the fine if Singleton re-paints the pub in  'acceptable"colours within the month.
A similar event happened in London in 2005 when he arrrived at his daughter's Notting Hill house unannounced, and not finding her home, had her front door re-painted red as a surprise. The local council ordered the door be re-painted it's original colour.

The pub re-paint is part of Singleton's promotion of the Gut Foundation, just one charitable cause the generous Singleton donates to which are a diverse lot- from paying legal bills of incarcerated asylum seekers, Rev Bill Crews Exodus Foundation  and almost too many to name..
Sadly, John who has been married 5 times has just split from his girlfriend Yvette Hartmann.
