Folk singer Gary Shearston has died of a heart attack in an Armidale hospital at the age of 74. He rose to prominence as a folk singer of Irish and Australian songs in the 1960s and had his own TV show for some years before being invited by the US folk trio Peter, Paul & Mary to tour the USA. But it was his 1975 droll and wonderful hit version of the Cole Porter's classic I Get A Kick Out Of You that put Gary on the world stage. In his later years he became an Anglican priest.
