A French Honour

Brian * Emile * and Gene Sherman
Gene Sherman owns the up-market Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation Gallery in Paddington. Now for the second time she has been honoured by the French government for her contribution to the arts and culture presented at a small cocktail party as our snap above shows.
Pinning on the medal is France's Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Monsieur Christophe Lecourtier.

And watching were some proud family members - husband Brian and son Emile. Brian Sherman who sold his investment company for $$mega-millions now concentrates on his charity Voiceless started by he and his daughter Ondine which raises awareness of animals suffering in factory farming and the kangaroo industry in Australia.
Emile Sherman is probably best known as the producer of the 2011 Academy Award winning film The King's Speech. Currently he's working on several TV series : Love Nina and Codes of Conduct, a science fiction film How To Talk to Girls at Parties starring Nicole Kidman and a re-make of the Lynda la Plante Widows starring Viola Davis.
And if you haven't been to the wonderful Sherman Gallery you'll find it at 16-29 Goodhope Street, just off Five Ways in Paddington.

A Simple Lass

Barely a soul took notice of the blond lady clinking through the various bottles of reasonably priced Chardonnay in a Kings Cross bottle shoppe last night, but she's Hollywood Royalty these days : Jackie Weaver winner of an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, Screen Actor's Guild Award, endless AFIs and a host of others. The Shuttle often runs into Jackie shopping at the local supermarket picking through the grocery bargains and not a head turns. This night she was pondering over a nice white for dinner with hubby Sean. He was next door in the local community medical centre waiting for a check -up.
Said Jackie later to writer Mandy Sayer ( another Cross resident) :  "I've been thinking that, now we're grown ups, maybe we should start seeing a regular doctor in a private practice?"

Final Last Word on the Oscars

How could we not mention our favourite media mogul Rupert Murdoch who tweeted just yesterday his distress that New Yorkers had the temerity to elect a Democrat mayor and that the city was now being run by "leftie incompetents" !.
Fortunately Rupert still made it to the Oscars with a new flame on his arm- Juliet de Baubigny who was named by Vanity Fair as 2013's as 'Silicon Valley's Most Stylish Person'!. One Big Question : Murdoch's News Ltd newspapers ripped into Cate Blanchett when she made some global warming comments last year. Will they still interview her now she has picked up the movie world's top gong ?

Book Thieves

A special screening of The Book Thief was held at the Shuttle's new favourite cinema- the Randwick Ritz an art deco movie house.

Star of the film Geoffrey Rush attended along with author of the novel the film is based on, Markus Zusac. The impressively young Markus has now sold over 8 million copies of the book which he says began after his German grandparents started to recount their experiences in Nazi Germany.

Rush tells the Shuttle he hadn't even heard of the book until his agent handed him the screenplay but he was hooked on the first reading and determined to act in the flick. While Geoffrey is popular on the red carpet, Markus was treated like a star with film patrons thrusting numerous copies of the book at him for autographs.

Our Jackie Does it Again !

She's one of our favourite actors and a friendly sight around Sydney. No airs or graces, down to earth and always happy for a chat :
Jackie Weaver has done it again and been nominated for an Academy Award for her 'performance by an actress in a supporting role' in Silver Linings Playbook.
Jackie appears opposite heartthrob Bradley Cooper and the legendary Robert Di Niro

Hugh Jackman has been nominated for best actor in  "Les Misérables" and Naomi Watts as best actress in "The Impossible".
