Star Trek Beyond on a Winter's night

Star Trek stars with director Justin Lin (centre): John Cho,   Karl Urban,  Zachary Qunto,   Chris Pine
Another night and another Sydney opening. Tonight is was Star Trek Beyond. And what a night! Blustery, cold and wet and very uncomfortable. Still once we were ensconced in the warm theater to watch 2 hours of escapism it was jolly good fun. And what a rather empty Red Carpet. Not even Terri Biviano turned up on a night like this! Who is she? Well might you ask but she's a regular on the carpet along with assorted footballers and news readers who jostle to stand in front of a hastily erected  & dreaded "media board", the scourge of social snappers and paparazzi alike as they all get the same pic which is dated and unsaleable by tomorrow. Good movie though.

Ground Hog Day !

We are being wicked of course. In the nicest possible way. The media excitedly told us that a new broom was to sweep through the clipboard guest lists and names would be ruthlessly slashed to pave the way for a new generation of society figures to attend this week's David Jones Spring Summer fashion parades.
How pleasing then to arrive and find the usual suspects- Terri Biviano, Anthony Minichiello, Kerri-Anne Kennerley and Richard Wilkins and his permanent date these days, son Christian.
And best of all the champagne remains the same with the party awash with Bolinger.

Pretty Pictures

Some lovely snaps of some very pretty people at a London party. No Terri Biviano or Laura Csortan at this bash and not one Alex Perry frock in sight !. That's a sure sign you ain't in Kansas any longer. And we're overjoyed to see Baz Luhrman's Great Gatsby has finally had an influence on British fashion- or is it Mary Poppins?.
The do was for Rimmel, one of the world’s oldest beauty brands who reckon they are the fashion-forward inventor of the hip London look and have been since 1834. The party was hosted at the London Film Museum in Covent Garden and as you can see from the gorgeous models below, they dipped into the Museum's drag box.

Marnie's Showcase

One highlight of the Mercedes Fashion Week was the photographic exhibition held by one of our most talented designers Marnie Skillings at her boutique in Glenmore Road Paddington.

TO celebrate the launch of her new collection titled Trait, Marnie turned  her shop into an art gallery to showcase 10 portraits of inspirational women including Sophie Lee, musician Julia Stone and shoe designer Terry Biviano.

Skillings is known for her feminine, romantic and sophisticated  pieces and has a confirmed following of fans who limo straight to her boutique when in town- including  Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman, Julia Stone, Abbie Cornish and Paris Hilton who shopped there recently during her visit to launch the Marquee nightclub at the Star casino.

Wedding Blues

First we had the 'wedding of the year' (Sunday Telegraph) -well it was the first wedding of 2012- when top shoe designer Terry Biviano married footie star Anthony Minichiello at the very grand St Mary's Cathedral in what was described as Sydney's Big Fat WAG Wedding.

The bridal party and guests then de-camped to Swifts, the magnificent 57 room Georgian Castle in Darling Point, home of the extended Moran clan. With it's magnificent ballroom and acres of sweeping lawns, Swifts is becoming the venue of choice.

A week ago the beautiful former model and boutique hotel owner Terry Kajos got hitched to her handsome French beau Guillaume Sadourny at Swifts watched on by a host of pals like Stedman's catering boss Mandy Quinn and fashion commentator Melissa Hoyer who twittered updates throughout the day and as the night wore on.

Who doesn't like a beautiful wedding with their gorgeous bridesmaids and happy couple, the partying on the rolling lawns and so on.?
But it appears Swift's neighbours are not sending their best regards and they are asking questions. Is Swifts now operating as a defacto reception centre for commercial events?.

Swifts rolling lawns are surrounded by tall apartment blocks and many residents are complaining that with several recent public events the noise has been extreme and parking in the streets filled to capacity. They say Swift's unique layout forms a 'bowl' that amplifies noise to the tops of buildings in which there are many well heeled and mainly older residents like the department store heiress Lady Walton.

One resident who wished to remain anonymous said yesterday "we were told by Swifts that they were organising a few charity events so that didn't seem too bad but recently they have had what seems to be commercial events and the word is that there are several more booked. We all became quite alarmed when we saw what looked like a commercial style kitchen being installed. Most of us are worried that Darling Point's peaceful atmosphere will be destroyed"

The Shuttle left a message for Woollahra Council to contact us with the current status of Swifts but they hadn't returned our call by Friday's end of business.

Age & Beauty

Anthony Minichielo, Terri Biviano, Yasmin Le Bon
Gail & Yasmin

They've been friends for years so supermodel Yasmin Le Bon jumped at the chance to model for her good pal Gail Elliott in her Little Joe range yesterday at the Sydney Fashion Week.
Le Bon, who is married to Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran and Elliott have been friends from years of working in the international fashion world. Yasmin who is 48 doesn't look a day over 30 and with 3 children she's a shining example of a working mum.

Elliott started her label in 2002 in New York and it's a runaway success. Having moved back to Sydney she produces her clothes locally and sells throughout Europe and the USA.
A bunch of pals joined Gail and Yasmin for a celebatory lunch after the parade at the Sake Restaurant in The Rocks
