Look Who We Trust!
Some surprising results from a Readers Digest survey on who Australians find as the most 'trustworthy' souls in the land.
Dick Smith |
Father Riley & Eric Bana |
Shane & Kyle |
Actors like Deborah Lee Furness, Cate Blanchet and Michael Caton are considered very trustworthy as is the Singing Budgie aka Kylie Minogue at No 30 but who comes in last? : At 99 is Kyle Sandilands behind Rupert Murdoch (surely American?) at 97 and Shane Warne at 74. Wacky mining magnate Clive Palmer who is building a replica Titanic in China is No 92.
And more popular than any business mogul or politician? Why The Wiggles of course at 15!

Current Ecuador Embassy resident Julian Assange, listed as Editor-In-Chief of Wikileaks is regarded as the 75th Most trusted Australian. Here is Julian recently interviewing Noam Chomsky and writer Tariq Ali :

Naomi Watts Boots Nicole Off Top Spot
Actress Naomi Watts is top of BRW's Young Rich List this
year having been paid $19M for two movies this year which include J.Edgar which opened to poor takings in the US.
Nicole Kidman took a paltry $18.6M by comparison but both ladies beat Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman despite Jackman's box office record breaking run on Broadway. Last year's winners-ACDC received only $9M compared to their whopping $131M takings during their world tour in 2010.
And Aussie dinosaurs are still winner Walking With Dinosaurs-the Arena Spectacular took $62M while the radio announcer who many says has dinosaur like views Kyle Sandilands made $3M despite losing millions of dollars in sponsors after his recent outbursts.

Is Lincoln Heading For Hollywood?
Rumours are circulating that good looking actor Lincoln Lewis could be headed for Hollywood and a star role in a new US TV series.
Lincoln, the son of former Australian rugby league great Wally Lewis has a number of appearances coming up on Oz TV including the new Underbelly Razor series that begins next Sunday evening on the Nine network and which is sure to receive high ratings.
Lincoln joined his co-stars in the drama Slide ( screened on Fox8.) last week for a dinner in the Graceland's Room in Surry Hills Winery to celebrate the new series launch.
Slide is about a bunch of teens making their way into adulthood-something Lincoln has had some experience with, when he and his former co-star from Home and Away Jodi Gordon were involved in a bizarre episode in 2009 with police being called to a harbour-side house with claims of bikie members breaking in to attack the pair. Whatever happened that night, it's probably just added to Lewis's mystique especially after it became public knowledge that he and a 'starlet'; had made a saucy film together.
And on the subject of Jodi- she and fiancee Braith Anasta attended last Thursday's Myer parade at the Carriageworks, cuddling in the first row throughout the parade.
Jodi has just finished filming the tele-movie Blood Brothers with Lisa McClune. Gordon plays the wife of the real-life 'perfect murderer' Jeffrey Gilham, jailed for the 1993 killings of his parents and brother.
Lincoln has also completed the film Bait which stars another Hollywood ex-pat Julian McMahon, the son of the late much loved social figure Lady Sonia McMahon.
Our source says McMahon's US agent was particularly taken by Lincoln's boyish good looks and charm and typical laid back Aussie style that has translated so well Stateside with actors like Russell Crowe , Hugh Jackman and Eric Bana and believes he is perfect for American audiences. To date the Shuttle still hasn't had a call back from Lewis's agent.
Here's a clip from Home &Away that shows off Lincoln's perfect pecs that would look right at home in Malibu:

A Recipe For Wagyu Beef From Ezekiel
That's what award winning chef Peter Gilmore told the guests last night at The Quay restaurant at a dinner to celebrate the San Pellegrino restaurant awards. Apparently the recipe was inspired the Ezekiel passages in the Bible.
He was talking about the main dish of a lavish banquet at Sydney's top restaurant that sits by the harbour and has spectacular views over the the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and points beyond.
The dinner for about 25 was in the upstairs dining room that was once an outlook station for pilots when The Quay was a part of the Overseas Terminal where ocean liners once berthed on a weekly basis.
Quay has again been named amongst the World's Top 5o Best Restaurants in the San Pellegrino restaurant awards. It clocked in at no 26, up one place from last year at the awards which were announced in April at the Guildhall in London.
If they dined on Wagyu beef in Biblical times like that enjoyed last night, they certainly ate well.
Three other locals came in the top 100-Tetsuyas and Marque in Sydney , and Attica in Melbourne. The Copenhagen restaurant Norma was voted No One for the second year running (a favourite of Prince Frederick and Princess Mary of Denmark) and a Stockholm establishment- Lilla Nygatan was named as the 'one to watch'.

For a lazy $60 million the harbour-side mansion Altona in Point Piper can be yours according to adverts that have appeared in a local Eastern Suburb's newspaper.
Publishers Deke and Eve Miskin have just put the house on the market. They bought it from Fiona Handbury, the ex-wife of Rupert Murdoch's nephew Matt Handbury for $28m in 2002.
Fiona, who has re-married to William Legge, the grandson of the romance novelist Barbara Cartland, is now the Countess of Dartmouth and received the mansion in a divorce settlement.
The Miskins are moving to the northern playground of Byron Bay and for the past 3 years have let the house out to celebrities like Hugh Jackman. One actor who has inspected the property with a view to buy-Russell Crowe .

Everything Old Is New Again
"Everything old is new again" goes the line from the late Peter Allen song. Always has been really. A great example-in the last ten years Playboy Clubs have been closing down across the USA but in London, a new Playboy Club has just opened.
It reminds the Shuttle of the heyday of the Playboy Clubs. We've only been to two. Arriving at the New York club once with 3 friends for a party thrown by Hugh Hefner we were mistaken for Abba. We also attended a few product launches at the former London Playboy Club in Mayfair run by Victor Lownes and once visited the Playboy Mansion in LA.
Probably the biggest ever Playboy party was the 25th year anniversary party thrown by Lownes at the Playboy mansion Stocks House in Hertfordshire. It went for 3 days and many guests were ferried in by helicopters. Victor Lownes ran the European Playboy operations for Hefner but had a falling out with him in the '90s and was fired.
He was always good at the required quips. Once asked what a playboy was he said "someone who is probably having more sex than you". It was all a fantasy of course but the whole charade worked during the Playboy hey days from the 60's through to the 80's.
The LA Playboy Mansion which can now be rented out for corporate parties was even more of a fantasy. Hefner boldly sold a dream built on tack and the idea if you could only crack the inner circle sex was yours for the taking. Once you did get 'in' the Bunnies were very prudish and strict rules prevented them from fraternising with guests on pain of sacking.
The LA mansion was like a Disneyland ride-looked exciting from the outside but disappointing once you got up close and the cracks were revealed. It was full of dreadful reproduction antique furniture of the worst taste. The rocks in the grotto swimming pool seemed to be fake. The whole place was tired and grubby looking.
At the UK 25th anniversary party every hotel, motel and boarding house in the surrounding area of Stocks was booked out by guests. Not that the rooms were always used. At the party there were a series of marquees- permanent food tents, a champagne bar and a non stop discotheque. They were open for the entire 3 days. Most of it passed in a blur and the Shuttle never made it back to our booked rooms. We collapsed in Stocks living room for a few hours kip at a time.
There was always a two tier guest regime at Stocks. The general party goers had the run of the house and grounds while a handful of honoured guests were entitled to visit the upstairs floor.
And they weren't always celebrities who made it upstairs to drink with Lownes or Playboy boss Hugh Hefner who only stayed for one day.
Amongst business cronies of Lownes, Tony Curtis and Rod Stewart would be Upstairs while Downstairs were newer stars of the day including Star Wars' actor Mark Hamil. who the Shuttle shared a spa bath with along with half a dozen bunnies !
Not very PC but who cares ?
## "The Boy From Oz " was a huge Broadway hit and made Hugh Jackman into a star. Based on the life of Australian singer Peter Allen it captured the exciting performances of Allen who was always over the top and as camp as a pink Koala Bear. A big favourite with other celebrities his shows were packed out with performers like Elton John, Barry Manilow and even Frank Sinatra who came to paid homage to one of the US top live performers. Here is his big hit 'I Go To Rio"

Tony Sheldon Conquers Broadway
Tony Sheldon comes from Australian theatre royalty-the son of actress Toni Lamond and the nephew of Helen Reddy.
He's been wowing audiences from Christchurch to Toronto, London and New York in the lead role of transsexual Bernadette in Stephan Elliott's Priscilla Queen of The Dessert. Tony won the Sydney Theatre Critics Award in 2007 and the Olivier Award for Leading Performance in a Musical in England in 2009.
Now he's been nominated for the prestigious US Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical and the odds are he will scoop the award. It's the same gong Hugh Jackman won for The Boy From Oz in 2004 which catapulted him into international stardom
Priscilla is the second Australia musical to crack Broadway and although critics were lukewarm about the gaudy colorful romp through the Outback, it's been a runaway box office success.
Liz Gardiner and Tim Chappel who won Oscars for the costumes in 1998 for the original film are also nominated.

Miss Universe Ditched From Hollywood Gala
The most successful Miss Universe ever, Jennifer Hawkins has been dropped from the annual G'Gay Australia USA celebrations in Los Angeles by the department store Myer.
The annual affair that runs from the 15th to the 29th January features a grand ball attended by the USA's Gum Leaf Mafia at the Hollywood Palladium on the 19th. Guests have included the likes of Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett, Hugh Jackman and a host of local stars who have made it big in the USA.
Jessica Hart |
There are events from Dallas to Boston as the Australian government promotes everything local from business policy to the still struggling film industry. This year the timing is perfect with the 2 shows filmed in Sydney by Oprah Winfrey to be shown on US TV with Oprah herself being a guest at the ball.
Last year Jennifer Hawkins was a guest along with her fiancee Jake Wall (they got engaged last week) Barry Humphries, Kristy Hinze and Rupert Murdoch.
Myer are investing big in the event with a fashion festival to run for the 14 days and Jennifer was meant to be the star model but she has now been dropped with the gap-toothed Jessica Hart picking up the role.
The Shuttle can exclusive report that the reason for Hawkins being canned was nothing to do with her personally but because of friction between her ambitious manager Sean Anderson and the Myer public relation's team. Myer CEO Bernie Brookes says that Hawkins was dropped because of a"culmination of a number of issues".
Although Anderson has presided over Hawkin's career as she raked in millions of dollars in appearances and endorsements her crown has begun to slip lately with the Seven TV network announcing that they will not be re-newing her contract this year.

That Oprah Winfrey Guest List in Full
Russell & Oprah sailing today on Sydney Harbour |
She seems to have swept the nation of their feet-Oprah Winfrey's tour Down Under is generating the sort of excitement last seen when Princess Diana made her last public appearance in 1996.
As the Social Shuttle exclusively reported, young Bindi Irwin is to be a guest on one of the two Oprah shows to be filmed tomorrow at the Sydney Opera House in front of an invited audience of 7500. The lucky guest's names were drawn out of hat of over 340,000 who applied for the tickets.
Bindi Irwin |
Today Oprah sailed on Sydney Harbour with Russell Crowe and wife Danielle. Russell will be a guest on Oprah's show along with Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, Hugh Jackman , Portia de Rossi and Olivia Newton John. Jon Bon Jovi will perform while John Foreman and his orchestra will play the finale of the 2 shows which are to be screened in the USA in early 2011.
On Thursday Oprah will be a guest at the re-opening party for the $660M re-vamped Star City Casino where Jon Bon Jovi will perform again. He'll be joined on stage by Bob Geldorf.
And Friday-she's off on a private holiday up north with her personal staff . Then we have to hope that amongst the 8% of Americans who have passports, some watch Oprah and will buy the expensive travelogue they see !

Shari-Lee & pal Lizzie Buttrose |
Appearing in the NSW Supreme Court today-Shari Lee Hitchcock who is demanding a bigger share of the estate of the late billionaire Dick Pratt.
Dick Pratt |
Shari Lee, whose 12 year old daughter Paula was fathered by Pratt is suing his widow Jeanne Pratt and the Pratt estate for a greater share. Paula was left a magnificent beach side house in Watson's Bay and a farm on the NSW south coast. There are also 4 properties in dispute that appear to be held by a maze of Pratt corporations: a multi million dollar Quay Apartmen,t 2 country properties and a paper mill in Tumut.
Despite daughter Paula also receiving $20M in cash both she and her mother claim they weren't left enough to live on by the late cardboard king. Dick Pratt died of cancer in 2009 leaving an estate valued at nearly $6B.

The Mother of All Balls
Now in it's 8th year, actress Rachel Ward's Mother of All Balls went of without a hitch on Friday night at Royal Randwick Racecourse in the Oaks Lawn Marquee.
Bryan Brown & Rachel Ward |
With A Rock The Kasbah theme it was an exotic extravaganza of Bedouin chic on a warm evening reminiscent (if you shut your eyes) of Casablanca meets Marrakesh in a seductive swirl of colour and light with Camel racing, dancing, a Moroccan Souk for Fez hats and jewellery and a sumptuous dinner by Luke Mangan, inspired by the fragrant and tantalising spices of Morocco.
Matilda Brown |
And most important, one of the Shuttle's favourite sponsors, Nicholas Feuillatte Champagne which is now the largest selling non vintage bubbles on the planet. Sadly the great man himself Nic Feuillatte failed to appear as he is ailing at his Sydney home where he is now permanently based having sold his Tangier palace.
In the past any major movie personality in town has attended Rachel's baby including Hugh Jackman , Russell Crowe and Quentin Tarrantino.
This year we had Kerri-Anne Kennerley and cricket great Shane Watson and girlfriend Lee Furlong ( see our pic from the OHLALA Mag).
