Missing the Scoops

While Fairfax Media's share price continues to plunge, down 8% to 48c and with printed circulation dropping around 24% every six months, perhaps it's endless campaign to mimic News Ltd's more downmarket tabloids is finally beginning to hit home.
The UK Guardian's local edition has rocketed into the top ten within 4 weeks of opening with an average readership of over a million a day and although Fairfax's aggregated daily views tops approx 2.8M, the notion that this will continue when they introduce a pay wall for readers to gaze upon their cold potato offerings ( often 48 hours after the tales have appeared on UK & USA sites) is wishfull thinking.
Whilst Fairfax along with most commercial outlets were agonizing over the death of actor James Gandolfini with their LA based TV critic offering a bizarre load of tripe and an irrelevant eulogy on ABC radio claiming the actor was someone the younger generation "identified " with, real news stories are sliding by them and local outlets are picking up scoops.
And one such story is the explosive claim in the First Nation Telegraph that the Prime Minister in waiting Tony Abbott 'inappropriately touched" respected award winning Aboriginal writer Ali Cobby Eckerman in a Darwin cafe earlier this week. Eckerman says Abbott sidled up beside her and rubbed his finger up and down her arm. NSW Labor MP Linda Burney is demanding an explanation from Abbott and still, deathly silence from the mass media.
Meanwhile Tony Abbott's main rival in the LNP, multi-millionaire MP Malcolm Turnbull (pictured) joined 350 others to sleep out on Thursday night at the Carriageworks to support St Vincent de Paul's WinterSleepout that raises funds for the homeless. And it was bloody freezing !

Nicole Kidman is In Style with Jimmy Choo

Our Nic has picked up a few more gongs. She was inducted into In Style Magazine's inaugural Women of Style Hall of Fame Award last night whilst being named as the new 'Face' ( surely feet?) of Jimmy Choo shoes.
A glittering dinner was thrown at the Carriageworks in deepest darkest Redfern and attended by 400 of the countries top ladies including Daniele Spencer, Gillian Armstrong and assorted TV personalities.

Nicole was awarded for her charity works that include raising money for the Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick.

Kidman is in Cannes (pictured right) to support her pal Baz Luhrmann for the launch of The Great Gatsby (she's also a Cannes' Film judge) and rumours are she will be in Sydney later this month for the Australian premiere.

Lindsay Hits Town

Fasten your seat belts : Mercedes Fashion Week has scored a major guest for their re-launched series of parades,  Lindsay Lohan.

The four day event in April moves from it's recent home at Circular Quay to Carriageworks in deepest Alexandria, a fact that already has noses out of joint but which is a sensible move- plenty of car parking and tons of room.
But it's the addition of Lohan that has tongues wagging : "what on earth has she got to with fashion?"harrumphed one major designer this week when told the news. Not much but the cameras will be tracking her every move. Brilliant !

Summer Fashion From Myer

As day follows night, the Myer fashion parade occurs a week after the David Jones parade.

To the Carriageworks in downtown Waterloo as Jennifer Hawkins and British import  Kris Smith ( Mr Danni Minogue ) launched the Myer Spring Summer 2011/2012 Collections last night with lots of  fresh, bright and bold colours

Brands new to Myer, Jayson Brunsdon, Fleur Wood and sass & bide (lured away from DJs with a multi-million dollar payout) plus new season collections by Myer’s leading stable of Australian designers and our favourite US import, Charlie Brown.

This summer campaign has drawn inspiration from the Australian landscape, with the show’s set design embracing the expansive and dramatic Pinnacles Desert in Western Australia. Models made their way down a 30-metre catwalk created to form a spectacular panoramic desert scene.
